Make Moving Easier with Advanced Planning Strategies
Are you planning to move sometime soon? If so, there are several steps you should take in order to make certain the entire process goes smoothly. In fact, the more advanced planning you do and the more organized you get beforehand, the less stress you will experience when moving day arrives.
Making A List
In order to get yourself better organized and to start thinking ahead about what you need to do in preparation for your move, it is helpful to start making some lists. You might want to consider purchasing a spiral notebook in which you can record all of the information related to your move. This will include a list of the items needing to be moved as well as other steps you need to take before your move will be complete, such as getting your utilities shut off.
You can also use your spiral notebook to help you keep track of the moving companies you contact. Devote one full page to each moving company and all of the information you have collected about that company. This will include information such as rates, availability and special terms and conditions. Once you select a moving company, you can then use this area to write down information about the company you selected, such as the names of the drivers and their contact information.
Get Your Moving Supplies Organized
You might be surprised about the number of supplies you need to have on hand when packing items and preparing for a move. Items you should be sure to have on hand include:
- Blankets
- Boxes
- Markers
- Moving Pads
- Newspaper
- Plastic Storage Bins
- Pocketknives
- Rope
- Scissors
- Packing Tape
You might be able to get some boxes from stores in your area. Or, you may want to purchase moving boxes from the moving company. In some cases, the moving company may require you to use their boxes if you are going to use their moving services. This way, they can be certain the boxes fit certain dimensions that help make the move easier.
Sell or Give Away Items
You may have some items that you will no longer need at your new location. Or, there may even be some items that are less expensive to replace than they are to move. In both cases, you might want to consider giving items away to charity or to friends. Or, you might want to hold a garage sale so you can try to make a little extra cash off of the items you are getting rid of.
Plan for the New Home
If you create a floor plan of the new home and start to get an idea of where you will be placing your items, you can make the entire moving transition much simpler. By knowing where the items will go, you can pack them in a way that makes it easier to unpack them and place them where you want them. Getting organized in this way is quite beneficial, as it helps you move in quickly and easily so you can start getting adjusted to your new life.
